Brits use SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) strategies to fight terrorism
Our eagle eyed server administrators today came across a huge influx of traffic to one of our client sites, namely the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR).
Recently published on the cnet news web site was a very interesting article titled “Brits use SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) strategies to fight terrorism”, which we recommend you take a read of.
The article is about the use of the Internet, and in particular search engines where government-approved groups will be trained to "flood the Internet" with "positive" interpretations of that religion in an online fight against radicalisation. The plan is to coach moderate Islamic groups on how to manipulate the Google rankings of their web sites in order to boost the online profile of moderate voices in the Muslim community. The article makes the comparison between the commercial use of SEO, which of course is a key element of many of MTC Media’s clients marketing strategies.
The article has obviously raised a fair amount of interest; as it has also appeared on the front page of the social networking site Digg, with the number of “diggs” increasing by the minute!
